University Advancement includes Alumni and Development, the arms of the institution that reach out to alumni and community partners. The units’ mains goals are focused on fund raising, alumni relations and institutional advancement.

W. Drake Owens, J.D., is the assistant vice president for External Affairs and University Advancement and is responsible for directing programs and other functions related to fund raising, engaging alumni, and related activities. Owens is also the executive director of the NSU Foundation, and serves as a liaison between the non-profit Foundation and the university. He manages the university’s fund raising, identifying resources commensurate with university needs and priorities and solicits applications for corporate and foundation grants, estate planning and other financial planning, maintaining ties with key external constituents.

Many of the activities in University Advancement impact University Recruiting, as fund raising efforts result in scholarships available to students and funds for professional development for faculty.
